According to the latest Active Lives report from Sport England, nearly two-thirds of adults in England were classified as 'active', with 11.1% classified as 'fairly active'. Gym and fitness activities have seen significant increases over the last 12 months, although numbers remain below pre-pandemic levels. Football, cricket, netball, and basketball saw growth in regular players, while swimming and team sports were impacted negatively.
Recovery has varied across different sections of society, with women, those from lower socio-economic groups, and black and Asian people still less likely to be active than others.
Age continues to be a major factor determining physical activity levels.
