A four-month-old baby boy, Leonidas Ramsden, died while sleeping in a pod on his parents' bed. He was found unresponsive some hours after being fed and placed in the sleeping pod. The post-mortem could not determine the cause of his death. The type or brand of the pod has also not been established. Baby hammocks, nests, pillows, cushions, duvets, cot bumpers, and anything that can wedged or strap a baby can pose a risk to babies under 12 months and increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
The Lullaby Trust has warned against such products, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission has advised parents to only use a fitted sheet and place infants to sleep on their back on a firm, flat surface such as a crib.
A full inquest will be held later.
