A Texas mother-of-four died after contracting a fatal fungal infection following cut-price plastic surgeries in Mexico. Lauren Robinson had liposuction, breast augmentation, and a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) carried out by Dr Luis Manuel Rivera De Anda. Soon after the surgery, she began experiencing severe headaches and was eventually diagnosed with meningitis.
Health officials believe the fungus may have entered her body through contaminated medical devices or a lack of infection prevention measures. Robinson is one of three American women to die after cosmetic surgery in Matamoros, Mexico. The CDC is monitoring 184 other people who received epidural anesthesia during similar surgeries.
